Getting paid

What you need to set up online payments

To take online orders you need your own payment account, so that you are the Merchant of Record and funds settle directly to your bank daily. We set this up with Pin Payments โ€” the account is free to open, with no setup fee and no monthly fee. The only cost is a transaction fee on each order you take.

Pin Payments is a regulated payment provider. Anti-money-laundering law requires them to verify your identity and confirm your business is genuine before they can settle funds to your account. Every merchant goes through the same checks โ€” none of it is discretionary. Having everything ready before you start is the best way to move the application along quickly.

You must have an ABN

A registered Australian Business Number is a hard requirement โ€” Pin Payments cannot open a payment account without one, and an application left blank or filled with zeros is held rather than reviewed.

Not sure if you have one? Search the free register at abr.business.gov.au. Don't have one yet? Apply for an ABN โ€” it's free, and we can hold your setup until it comes through.

Have these ready

This is what Pin Payments needs to satisfy their verification obligations. It is the same list for every merchant.

  • Your ABN

Pin Payments can't open an account without a registered Australian Business Number (ABN). An application submitted with the field blank โ€” or filled with zeros โ€” is held until a valid ABN is supplied. You can look yours up free at abr.business.gov.au.

  • A business bank account

The BSB and account number for the account you want your takings paid into. The account must be in your business name โ€” a personal account in a different name will be queried.

  • Photo ID for each owner and director

Where a business has more than one owner or director, each of them needs to verify their identity โ€” not just the person filling in the application. Pin emails a link to do it securely online through HooYu, an identity verification service: you photograph your ID and take a selfie, and nothing is sent by email or post. Once it is done, reply to Pin and tell them who was verified โ€” applications sit waiting on this more than anything else. It is an identity check only and has no effect on your credit history.

  • Three documents that evidence your business

Pin asks every applicant for all three. Digital copies or clear photos are fine โ€” worth gathering before you start.

    • A recent invoice you issued to a customer
    • A supplier invoice payable, addressed to your business
    • A bank statement showing the account details and your business name
  • Your website address

Pin needs to see what you sell. If you don't have a website, don't give them a Facebook or Instagram page โ€” a social media profile isn't accepted and the application will be held. Enter https://app.mypreorder.com instead. Once your online store is set up we contact Pin ourselves with your actual menu link.

  • If your business is held in a trustIf it applies

Pin needs the signed trust deed, any variations to it, and the current unit holder register where there is one. This is how they establish the beneficial owners and therefore who has to complete ID verification.

After you apply

Almost every application we see held up is held up for one of these three reasons โ€” none of which is Pin being slow.

Finish it in one sitting if you can

An application that's started but not submitted isn't visible to Pin's compliance team, so nobody is reviewing it. This is the single most common reason a merchant is left waiting.

Watch your inbox โ€” including spam

Pin emails you directly if anything is missing. Applications routinely sit unprocessed for weeks because that email went unread. Replying promptly is the single most effective thing you can do to move yours along.

Answer with the documents, not a summary

If Pin asks for the three business documents, attach all three. A reply with partial information restarts the review rather than advancing it.

Ready to apply

Start a new application, or pick up one you've already begun โ€” you won't lose what you entered. If something on this list is a problem, tell us: there is usually a way forward.

Not sure which you need, or stuck on a step? Ask us โ€” or just reply to any of our emails.

Questions about fees rather than paperwork? See plans and transaction rates.
